Here are the eligibility requirements for this course: 
Completed grade 12 or any higher level.

Essential Tools and Materials

Equipment needed: 

  • Laptop
  • Computer with a mouse or preferably graphic tablet such as Wacom with pressure-sensitive stylus and Wacom mouse. Windows based or Mac is suitable, but it needs to be a recent model with a sufficient cpu/gpu power. Abundant hard drive space.
  • If computer can't read camera memory cards, additional external card reader will be needed to transfer the files onto computers and work on the files.
  • Camera: full frame DSLR or mirrorless with wide angle lens (15 to 20mm), medium zoom (24 to 70mm and one telephoto lens (70 to 300mm),
  • ND (Neutral Density) filter (10 stops) which matches the lens thread,
  • Circular polarizer which matches the lens thread,
  • remote trigger (intervalometer with 1 second or longer intervals),
  • good quality tripod with a ball head and a matching mounting plate for the camera. 
  • More than one fully charged camera battery (for 6 hours shot)

Course Outcome

Upon completion of the Professional Architectural Photography course, participants will:

  • Acquire the skills to artfully apply composition principles, drawing inspiration from master painters and photographers, to create visually compelling architectural images.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using light sources to enhance architectural mood, with hands-on experience capturing diverse shots at different times and locations.
  • Gain expertise in utilising essential hardware tools, especially tilt-shift lenses, for precise control over perspective and the creation of unique effects.
  • Develop the ability to recognize and capture the most memorable aspects of architecture, creating signature/hero shots that stand out.
  • Learn techniques to overcome camera sensor limitations, including shooting bracketed exposures for HDR processing, expanding dynamic range and minimising noise.
  • Utilise professional software tools for advanced editing, portfolio creation, and panoramic image stitching, achieving polished and impactful architectural photographs.
